The State of Rhode Island Department of Health has a Health Professional Loan Repayment Program
To improve access to care and retain providers who provide healthcare services in underserved communities and to address health professional shortages that cause disparities in health.
What The DOH Will Do
The DOH works with the Health Professional Loan Repayment Board to offer health education loan repayments to eligible health professionals. These individuals serve in a variety of disciplines including primary care, dentistry, and mental health and have made a two-year commitment to practice in medically underserved communities as identified through the Health Professional Shortage Area process.
The Board receives, reviews, and evaluates all applications from healthcare professionals and sites to determine program eligibility based on regulations and the availability of funding
