PA Modernization Act of 2019

PA Modernization Act of 2019

This act will update PA practice act to reflect current standards and terminology.  The changes include:

    • Moving from a supervisory practice model to a collaborative model
    • Removing requirements for documentation of  the PA/Physician relationship and language that inaccurately describes the way that modern health care teams practice.
    • Relieving physicians from accepting liability for the care provided by the PA
    • Increasing the annual continuing medical education requirement from 10 to 25 hours

    • Creating an additional PA position on the Board of Licensure for PA

The Act will update the Rhode Island PA Practice Act (RIGL 5-54) to reflect current standards and terminology is making its way through Rhode Island General Assembly.

 House Bill-5572 and Senate Bill-0433 will make several changes in the laws including moving from a supervisory to a collaborative practice model,

Legislation has been introduced in Congress that would authorize PAs to receive direct payment under Medicare.  

Currently PAs are the only health care professionals authorized to bill Medicare but they do not receive payment.......LEARN MORE

On Jan 28, 2019, The Promoting Access to Diabetic Shoes Act, S. 237/HR 808, was introduced in the U.S. Senate by Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Sherrod Brown (D-OH), and in the House by Reps. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) and Rep. Tom Reed (R-NY).   The legislation would allow PAs to certify the need for Medicare patients to obtain diabetic/therapeutic shoes.
